So here we are now back from our wonderful vacation in the Smokey Mountains of East Tennessee, I would have thought we would have had more of a game plan by now....
David did go in for his semen test and to our shock it was 14 Million!!!!! David has been told by a previous semen testing that his was very low. So we are extremely excited by this news!! There has been an issue with my blood work that Dr. Kaufmann had sent off to see why my egg count is low- so looks like I will need to go back in and have this re-drawn or something.
D. Kaufmann did get my past HSG/sonograms/blood work in from My OB Dr. Howell- and he has decided that he wants to do a repeat hysterosalpingogram test on me- this is commonly called HSG for short, it is an X-ray test that looks at the inside of the uterus and fallopian tubes and the area around them. It often is done for women who are having a hard time becoming pregnant (infertile).
During a hysterosalpingogram, a dye (contrast material) is put through a thin tube that is put through the vagina and into the uterus. Because the uterus and the fallopian tubes are hooked together, the dye will flow into the fallopian tubes. Pictures are taken using a steady beam of X-ray (fluoroscopy) as the dye passes through the uterus and fallopian tubes. The pictures can show problems such as an injury or abnormal structure of the uterus or fallopian tubes, or a blockage that would prevent an egg moving through a fallopian tube to the uterus. A blockage also could prevent sperm from moving into a fallopian tube and joining (fertilizing) an egg. A hysterosalpingogram also may find problems on the inside of the uterus that prevent a fertilized egg from attaching (implanting) to the uterine wall.
I had one done in December 2008- and trust me it is no walk in the park! For you ladies- think of the worst menstrual cramps you have ever had...times that by like 50 and make it be a constant pain for around 5min or so until the test is done! Not what I would like to do again- but if it gets us one step closer to having our baby....so be it! We have this set up to do Monday August 1st at 2:45pm. Dr. Johns in Ft. Worth will be doing the test.
Last week we were up in East TN for David's family reunion- His family is spread out between the upper north east and down here in TX- We had an amazing time!! I have truly married into a wonderful family and could not ask for anything better!! Below are some of the pictures we took while there!! Enjoy!
At one part during our time at the National park there was a Momma bear with her triplet cubs!! She came very close to us and was not shy at all!!!

Poked and prodded and information overload!
We just got done with our first appointment with Dr. Kaufmann!!
What started out to be a pretty good morning quickly took a turn:
We show up to the location that was on the buisness card I was given by my OB, we are a bit early so we sit outside and wait....David looks at the door and the name of the Dr on the door and Dr. Kaufmann's name is no where on there.....we start to worry! Once this office opens we walk in and I ask if Dr. Kaufmann was still at this location- he is NOT! Great!!! So we are trying to call his office to get directions and all I'm getting is an automated person telling me that I can leave a message....no option to talk to an actual human being! GREAT!! So I call my mom to look up on her computer his website to get his new address (we tried with our iPhones but it would never load) I plug in the new address into our GPS....and for some reason it still thinks I'm in GRANBURY!!! As I'm driving in the direction of his new office I have to turn off the GPS and turn it back on to see if it can now find me!! We finally make it to his new office...only about 12 min late....and if you know me I can not STAND to be anywhere late!!! So we get there and I'm pretty flustered...then comes all the paperwork! But once we got into the room I settled down and was fine!
I will say his staff was pretty quick and got us right into the consultation room! We were not even finished with the paperwork and here comes Dr. Kaufmann in to talk to us. We go over medical history and all that fun stuff....then into the exam room for a check of my ovaries and eggs and uterus! He did see that my egg count was not where a normal 28 year old should be....I have slightly less than normal but he was quick to say this is not that big of an issue and ordered some blood work on me to check more into it!
He talked about our options and really all depends on how the semen analysis comes back on David and such- He will be making his "donation" next week. Our Dr also got our consent forms so he can get all the test and notes on my previous exams and procedures as well as David's last semen analysis from our past Dr's. Our options would be IVF or IUI (insemination) this all depends on what the test come back as and if he thinks he can possibly give David something that may help his sperm count to get higher, this will determine the % rates on what IUI and IVF will be for us and from there we will make the decision.
We were given paperwork on both procedures and the cost and all this fun stuff.....so much information in a 2 hour time span that it is making my head spin!! LOL but I'm confident in Dr. Kaufmann- he has a great personality and bedside manner and he is certain that in the end we will have a baby!!!!
That is all of the update I have for now....kinda have to wait and see what all the test come back as, before we can make a good decision on what we are going to do!
